Arrived in Granada.
The squat we’re at is great. It’s an open squat so people come and go all the time. It’s all outside so we’re in a tent which is awesome.
Passed this on the way to finding it.

Today we leave here! Hallelujah.
We’re going to grab a bus to Granada where we’ll be looking for an open squat called The Magic Garden. Then we should be meeting up with Ahmed, an amazing Egyptian guy we met in Tarifa who actually lives in Manhattan but is travelling Spain and morocco for a couple of months. When we told him about our friend Dans commune in Orgeva, he immediately said he’d lie to come and see it, dan said its fine so after a couple of days in Granada we’ll be hitch hiking there with him.
I’m fucking excited for the next month. More than anything else for a while.

WELL!
Yesterday morning we left Tarifa. We wanted to make another stop somewhere before we head to Granada but we left things very last minute and ended up sending out a public couch surfing request to Granada for last night and tonight. Then a guy contacts us who lives in Almeria. We take it.
We spend half an hour on a bus, 2 hours waiting for another one, then 7 hours on it when it turns up. On the long journey, we came up to a round about where the police were pulling over random cars to check for drugs. We looked out the window and saw one guy in handcuffs. Molly and I looked at each and laughed. For the first time, we were on a bus in Spain with nothing on us. On every other bus journey we’ve always had some sort of drug in our bag. Hell, last year, we were on a bus from Lisbon to Madrid with MDMA, Coke, weed and hash. So the police pulled the bus over, looked in the luggage compartment, then another guy brought a sniffer dog on. He paid a lot of attention to us, at one point even standing on it’s rear legs, it’s front on my lap and it’s snout sniffing my pockets, my crotch, my hands… The officer asked if we smoked marijuana or hash, we said no. “Only tobacco”. You could tell he wanted to bust us but the dog wasn’t going crazy enough for him to actually think we had anything on us. We relaxed. They left. We continued.
When we arrived at Almeria, it was about 10pm, ten minutes later, Dante, 42 years old, picked us up in his Jaguar. He didn’t speak much English but that’s no problem. Between the three of us, we communicated in Spanglish pretty well for the ride to his house. When we arrived he put music on the tv, popular clubbing tunes of right now. He then prepared us a delicious meal, accompanied by red wine. We ate and went to smoke a cigarette. He came outside and said he didn’t smoke unless he was in company. He also asked if we wanted anything else to smoke?
“I bought some chocolate a couple of months ago but have not smoked it. Do you want?”
When good things happen and I’m shocked they have - I burst into laughter. I looked at Moll and she turned to him and said, “Only if it’s ok withyou. We’d love to roll one now.”
He went to get the hash and we moved back into the living room. While we prepared a joint, he prepared cocktails. First we had a chocolate cocktail, the ingredients are a secret, all I know is chocolate and brandy. Molly doesn’t like spirits much so while Dante’s back was turned, I downed hers once mine was over - she didn’t want to seem rude.
Anyway, we had more joints, more cocktails and spent the night watching clips from American X factor. He couldn’t believe how much music we hadn’t heard. It’s hard trying to explain that just because a song is in the charts, it doesn’t mean everybody knows it.
It was an odd one - he obviously uses couch surfing to try and pick up women. It’s like Barney from how I met your mother’s apartment. Loads of crazy technology, condoms in the draw of the coffee table, mood lighting (dimmers and various colours..), a big balcony, a shelf full of booze… It could have all been a bit weird, but Molly and I just find it hilarious that we so often find ourselves in the most unlikely, ridiculous situations.
I think today we’re going to the beach with him! Should be a laugh.
